Claire has given her baby up for adoption and the wedding falls on her daughter's first birthday, so she's pretty bummed as the story opens on what should be a happy occasion. Stick with her. She had her reasons to give up her daughter, and she's not a tragic heroine. Ben is uniquely qualified to understand what she's going through, and he brings back her smile. I love this couple together.
